Interested by the relational mechanics of functioning as a composite, they acknowledge this pursuit as a romantic proposition. Important is their admission to, and misappropriation of scientific theories that remain in the realm of practical fiction. <br /><br />Their most recent projects are the result of what Ms&amp;Mr refer to as Retroactive Collaboration. To date, they have defined this in terms of the possibility to work and relate not only in their present state, but also with their own and each other\'s former and future selves. This is sublimated through material created at a time (chronologically speaking) in which they didn\'t know each other. This inters the notion that distinctions between the past, present and future are an illusion, allowing for the proposition that they were always in relationship.<br /><br />The artists have mined family archives of VHS cassettes, photos and drawings that document their respective childhoods. They transform these materials, often inserting themselves into each other\'s documented \'memories\', artificially extending the length of the couple\'s shared history in an attempt to create relational scenarios otherwise impossible.<br /><br />Ms&amp;Mr are currently undertaking their Master of Fine Arts by research at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, and have recently returned from Paris after a 3 month residency at the <a href="http://www.citedesartsparis.net/" target="_blank"> <u>Cite Internationale des Arts</u></a>.<br /><br />In 2008, Ms&amp;Mr were curated into Primavera at the <a href="http://www.mca.com.au/" target="_blank"> <u>MCA Sydney</u></a>, and in 2005 were awarded the Helen Lempriere Traveling Art Scholarship for their work, \'The Woman Who Mistook Her Husband For Art\' installed at <a href="http://www.artspace.org.au/" target="_blank"> <u>Artspace, Sydney</u></a>. Supposing that his wife is in a spaceship far from Earth and he is in their home in Pasadena, Kip explains that the distance through the wormhole would be very short, so they could \"hold hands through it, romantically, as she sails around in interstellar space.\" He goes further to add that if they want to do anything more, then he can crawl through the wormhole into her spaceship.<br /><br />Time: <br />This relatable, though presently impractical, scenario seems at first glance to be a useful extension of domesticity. However, Kip goes on to elaborate the effect of time dilation on the couple. At Kip\'s home, the flow of time at the wormhole\'s mouth is slowed a bit by Earth\'s mass, while in Carolee\'s spaceship, with no massive bodies nearby, time flows at a faster pace. \"After a while this difference of flow rate transforms the wormhole into a time machine.\" The extraordinary result is that \"Carolee can travel backward in time by crawling through the wormhole, climbing into another at-the-ready spaceship and fly out into interstellar space and meet her younger self.\"<br /><br />Retrograde Motion: <br />At this paradoxical moment, we locate our own domestic science fiction. We propose our theoretical process of Retroactive Collaboration, or harnessing the moment when we meet our younger selves in the form of our archives. Here, we locate the opportunity to collaborate with an alternate, archival version of ourselves. In this series Ms&amp;Mr trawled through their home VHS footage of them as children to create a series of adaptations / restorations that transform what are often lonely awkward moments into fantasies that collide remembered childhood fantasies with their mature selves\' desire to restore their own and each other\'s pasts. The catalyst for these is the longing for empathy.<br /><br />In Videodromes for the Alone: The Lovecats 1991/2007, Ms. lip-syncs and dances to the Cure\'s \'The Lovecats\' in \'91, however in this adaptation a mature Mr. of the present accompanies her in the dance, crossing literally from the open black digital space into the screen of her past and restoring Ms.\' lone lip sync to the plurality of the original song\'s title and her original intention for it to be a collaborative lipsync.<br /><br />In Videodromes for the Alone: Teleplasmic Mass 1987/2007, time fractures again; we see an 11 yr old Mr. sleeping (oblivious to the camera torment of his older brother) and picking his nose. In this restoration, Ms. confounds the video memory by now being part of the scenario, reconstructing this banal act. Ms. as an adult self engages with a pre-pubescent Mr. creating a possibly unnerving onscreen relationship that cannot exist beyond the screen.<br /><br />These videos make apparent the exploitation qualities of the modest home movie, which also parallel the exploitation qualities of Ms&amp;Mr\'s practice.
